Introduction of Fiber Optic Technology

Fiber optic cable is a cable network that can transmit data through the medium of light. Compared with other types of cable, fiber optic cable is much more expensive. However, fiber optic cable has a much further than 200 meters to hundreds of kilometers of optical fiber is resistant to interference of electromagnetic waves and can send data at higher speeds than other cable types. Fiber optic cables do not carry an electrical signal generation, such as other cables using copper wires that are relatively vulnerable to lightning attacks. Instead, the signal from the optical fiber cable that represents the bits are converted to a form of light.

  • Type's Fiber Optic Cable

Fiber optic cable consists of two types, known as single mode cable and multi mode cables. Single-mode cable can reach longer distances and will only send one signal at a time. Single mode can reach hundreds of kilometers

Multimode cable can send different signals at the same time, to send data at different angles of refraction at the same time, sends the data on the shrinkage of different refraction. multimode cable is usually only reaches 550 meters or less.

  • Fiber Optic Connector

Fiber Optic cable connector comprises several types, namely
ST type connectors
SC type connector
FC type connector
LC type connectors, and
SMA type connector.

ST type connectors and SC connector type  are two types of connectors that are most widely used for the connection OTB. ST and SC connectors connectors are two types of connectors where the connector SC SC circular and rectangular connectors. In industrial applications, the use of these cables should be tailored to the type of device used for the device to the cable type is very different from single-mode devices for multimode cable.

  • SC type connector is a connector that is used for single mode cable types, connectors are not very expensive and can be set manually with the device accuracy
  • FC connectors are used for single mode cable with very high accuracy in the cable connecting the transmitter and receiver. These connectors use a threaded draw system with adjustable position, so that when coupled to the device, its accuracy will not be easily changed.
  • LC connector is shaped like a bayonet connector keyed, almost similar to a BNC connector. very commonly used, both for multi-mode or single mode. very easy to use either installed or removed

  • SMA connector is the predecessor of the ST connector both use and a protective cover. But as the development of ST connector, the connector has been developed no longer use.

The size of the cable consists of two types, namely single mode with a diameter the size of 5Mikron, 9 micron or 10Mikron and multi mode with a diameter sized 50Mikron or 62.5Mikron. Thus, as is known, is a glass fiber cable is long and thin pure and diameter of a human hair. And in its use multiple wires into one in a place called the cable rack and is used to deliver digital data in the form of light signals within a great distance. Marriage between the components of fiber optic cables and electronics as well as the use of light from the fiber optic cable itself has gained increasing FO cable performance itself. Current national and international telephone connections have been using the FO cable media.

Soon FO cable will change the way we watch TV, receive and use information. The concept of wiring harness light as a modern means of communication started at the end of the 19th century when Alexander Graham Bell in 1880 and patented his invention represents the use of light as pentransmit sound cable. Such a device known as photophone, using light and light sensitive devices as a receiver and broadcast it back to reproduce the human voice.

In the transmission cable, a glimmer of light is an optical signal, is used as a means of carrying information. Either in the form of analogor digital. In operation, light is released into the cable that consists of two layers, namely the core and the outside. Light travels along the fiber cable through a series of reflections that occur when the ITIN and the outside of the meeting. When the light reaches the end of the channel, the light is then picked up by a light sensitive receiver, and after a series of steps, tereproduksi original signal.

As a technological invention, having the advantages and disadvantages. Here are the advantages of:

Compared with other types of communication systems, the light which is a carrier of information in the system, can accommodate manyvolume of information. Transmission in the range of giga-plus (billion bits per second). One 0.75-inch cable to replace the 20 3.5-inch coaxial cableconventional. Cable immune to electromagnetic and radio interference. Because light is used to convey information kiabel, adjacent communication channels will not affect the transmission. FO cable channels offer a level of data security is higher than in conventional systems. This makes it difficult for FO cable channels and these channels are not intercepted radiation issue. Information can be broadcast over the range of distances without repetition. The new generation of LD and cable complements, as well as capturing sensitive, able to relay the distance without repetition.
A cable channel is in a state asset value at a premium, for example in building a pipeline can be used as a carrier cable. Because the typically small wire cable is easy to be placed in comparison with conventional cable
